You will always find Paap Auto Body's
owner Tim Paap attending to every aspect of the restoration and repair. Those who know him and his
customers have come to expect this because Tim's attention to detail is second to none. While in high
school Tim Paap knew that he wanted to repair cars. "I had an older car in high school," he said. "I
started doing body work on it. It started as a hobby and has turned into a career. I knew
in my junior year of high school exactly what I wanted to do. I’ve always been fond of cars and how they are put
together."
After graduating from Charleston High School in
1994, Tim attended Nashville Auto Diesel College. After completing the coursework he returned to Coles
County and worked for Don Porter Auto Body in Mattoon and for Tom Porter Auto Body in Charleston before
starting his own shop.
"I was doing some work for people at home and it just got to be too much," he said. "I decided to open
my own facility."
The collision repair shop is located behind the
brick home where Tim and his family have lived since 1997.
The shop features the latest technology to help restore the vehicles to their original condition. Two
pieces of equipment he is most proud of are a computerized frame measuring system and accompanying frame
rack.
Tim can type in the vehicle identification number
and the computer will tell him exact specifications for that vehicle.
"The hardest thing for me is to not be in here 24 hours a day, seven days a week," he said. "I
constantly want to work and want to put out the best product I can. My name is out." |
